How to Install Apple CarPlay in the Infiniti G37, Q50, or 370Z

Step-by-step guide to installing an Apple CarPlay Android Auto screen in the Infiniti G37, Q50, or Nissan 370Z. What to expect, tools needed, and tips.

One of the most popular upgrades for any Nissan or Infiniti is replacing the factory infotainment with a modern Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen. Whether you drive a G37, Q50, 370Z, or Q60 — here is what to expect from the installation process.

What You Will Need

  • Plastic trim pry tools (never use metal — it will scratch)
  • Phillips and flathead screwdrivers
  • 10mm socket
  • Electrical tape and wire connectors (usually included)
  • About 2–4 hours for a first-time install

Step 1 — Disconnect the Battery

Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on any electronics. Wait 5 minutes before proceeding. This prevents accidental short circuits and protects the vehicle's electrical system.

Step 2 — Remove the Factory Head Unit

Use plastic pry tools to carefully remove the center console trim surround. Work from one edge and move around gradually — the clips will release one by one. Remove any screws securing the factory unit and slide it out of the dash cavity.

Step 3 — Disconnect Factory Wiring

Unplug the factory wiring harnesses from the back of the head unit. Most CarPlay units include adapter harnesses that plug directly into the factory connectors — no cutting required on clean installs.

Step 4 — Connect the New Unit

Plug in the included wiring adapters to the new screen. Connect power, ground, reverse signal, and parking brake wires per the included wiring diagram. Most units for Nissan/Infiniti vehicles include a plug-and-play harness that makes this straightforward.

Step 5 — Test Before You Tuck Wires

Reconnect the battery and power on the unit before fully installing it. Test CarPlay, backup camera (if applicable), audio, and navigation. It is much easier to fix wiring issues before the unit is mounted.

Step 6 — Secure and Reassemble

Once everything works, slide the unit into the dash, tuck all wiring neatly, and reinstall the trim surround. Press each clip firmly until it seats. Reconnect the battery and do a final function check.

Tips

  • Label your connectors before disconnecting — especially on multi-screen units like the Q50
  • The Q50 dual-screen system requires a specific adapter — confirm your unit includes it
  • A backup camera input is highly recommended — most units support it
